Funding for this project supported an aspect of the June 4-7, 2012 International Conference of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums in Tulsa, Oklahoma and provided professional development opportunities for Native artists.

Hula Preservation Society

This award supported a project which brought Native Hawaiian hula practitioners together to share in and celebrate ancient hula practices for which instruction is not readily available today.

Kuleana O’iwi Press

The conference was the very first Native Hawaiian Writers and Literature conference. In addition to the 400+ conference attendees, it attracted over 30 Native Hawaiian published writers who participated in multiple ways including as panelists, performers, workshop presenters and moderators and keynote speakers.

New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA)

This apprenticeship program invited traditional and contemporary Native artists to collaborate in a master and apprentice training format. NEFA awarded four grants of $5,000 and one grant of $3,000 pairing an experienced master artist with an apprentice for up to one year, establishing a one-on-one learning experience that helps to ensure the continued vitality of Native artists in New England.

Northwest Indian College

Advanced weavers who are members of the Northwest Native American Basketweavers Association (NNABA) and part-time faculty of Northwest Indian College (NWIC) shared their knowledge and skills with novice and apprentice weavers and one another.

Northwoods Niijii Enterprise Community

Funding for the project supported a convening of artists, arts administrators, master artists, and culture bearers from the NiiJii communities and across the Woodland region for a 2-day gathering.

Seventh Generation Fund

In coordination with regional partners, the conference convened an “arts and the environment” focused symposium at the Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture, in Bozeman, Montana. This special convening brought together key culture bearers and artists of the region and nationally.
