NEA National Heritage Fellowship Call for Nominations Deadline July 25, 2016

Opportunity For American Indian, Alaska Native And Native Hawaiian Artists

Eligibility is by nomination only for the coveted National Heritage Fellowship. There are 8 awards of up to $25,000. This is a wonderful opportunity and the NEA and NACF are making a special appeal for greater Native representation among master artist nominees.

Last year the NEA received a record number of nominations of Native artists and awarded three Native artists out of 8 total, including NACF 2015 Fellow Clarissa Rizal.

Eligible nominees are those who are able to demonstrate a lifetime of achievement, artistic excellence, and contribution to our nation’s traditional arts heritage.

Connected-hibiscusDEADLINE: Monday, July 25, 2016

To nominate an artist, please see the NEA instructions on-line. Artists may not nominate themselves, but we urge artists who think they qualify for the award to ask a trusted source to make the nomination for them.  The minimum requirements are a letter of nomination and completion of the NEA on-line nomination form.  You may find a sample of a nomination letter here.

Once a nomination form has been completed and the nomination letter uploaded, nominators will have from July 29th to August 5th to upload work samples and letters of support.

Please contact Cheryl Schiele, Folk & Traditional Arts Specialist at the NEA, for further details, schielec@arts.gov. 202-682-5587.
