Grantee: Seventh Generation Fund
In coordination with regional partners, the conference convened an “arts and the environment” focused symposium at the Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture, in Bozeman, Montana. This special convening brought together key culture bearers and artists of the region and nationally.
The gathering was a platform for highly interactive discourse to build awareness and illuminate the needs for Native community engagement and preparedness for the imminent climate change impacts on traditional cultures and tribal ecosystems. 24 artists and indigenous leaders addressed these tough issues vital to our survival as a planet, presenting overviews of their work to the 200 attendees. The impacts of this event will be long lasting and far reaching. First and immediate was the networking and connections that were made between presenters. Many of them had been working in overlapping fields, issues and/or mediums and had never met. The symposium provided an opportunity for these community leaders and visionaries to come together and discover new allies and partners in their future efforts.
